In 1991, the library collections of the Ste. Genevieve Middle and Ste. Genevieve High School were combined. The site of this merger was the new, modern R. W. Thomas Library Media Center. The accommodating two-story structure is the junction of the high school and the middle school buildings, thereby accessible to both student bodies. The LMC serves around 575 middle school students and 620 high school students. In addition, it is a valuable resource center for 58 middle school faculty/staff and 66 high school faculty/staff. The ground floor serves as the reference area. It houses periodicals, reference books, 14 computer workstations, AV equipment, library workroom, AV room, faculty library, projection room and the district library coordinator's office. Floor II contains the stacks: row after row of books which the students may check out. A writing lab/bank of student workstations, a laminator, and a library workroom are also on the second floor. The
library is named for Mr. Raymond W. Thomas, who served the R-II district
for 43 years, most of those years as the district superintendent. He
would have been honored to have the library named for him, for above
all, Mr. Thomas believed in quality student academics. |
